The brand new Dugard SS1263 high speed VMCs are a smaller, faster version of our tremendously successful Dugard HD VMCs. They’ve still got the unique bedway design with the X axis sitting underneath the Y axis, giving you much more space for the machine, guarding and the travels.
The footprint is amazing, with travels on the SS1263 at 1200 x 630mm, with more or less the same footprint as a 1000 capacity machine from other manufacturers. MTDCNC came to our open house to have a look, the video’s underneath:
As Eric pointed out in the video, the reverse axis bedway design definitely has a positive impact on the machine’s performance, helping the machine run much more smoothly. The rigidity is also benefited as the table is supported at all points on the X axis, making a massive improvement to the machine stability during high speed machining.
The SS1263 is available with either linear roller ways or boxways and has a BT40 spindle. The standard spindle speed is 12,000rpm with a direct drive system, it’s high powered at 22kW, it has a 30 station toolchanger, through spindle coolant and refrigerated ballscrews all as standard. Available with Fanuc, Siemens or Heidenhain control options, the SS1263 is perfect for the high speed, high activity machining required for the aerospace sector but outside of the UK we’ve also seen a demand in mould and die making.
